Hello,

I’m Ilan, an art director and designer based in Melbourne. When I turned 12, my parents sent me to magic school (pictures available upon request). I’m still not exactly sure what their intentions were, but I’ve narrowed it down to 2 possibilities:

    1. They were sadists who wanted to see what would happen when I entered
middle school.
   2. They were trying to mould me into yet another stereotypically slightly overweight
12-year-old.

Regardless, spending every Saturday doing magic taught me how to think creatively, get people’s attention and keep them engaged. I had people believe there were different ways to perceive what we thought we already knew. Thankfully I outgrew being a magician but it paved the way for a career focussed on shaping how we understand and experience everyday life.

I’m a simple book to read: I concept ideas and craft design. Having worked on brands like CommBank, BIGW, and VIC Gov, I’ve had the opportunity to pull “what ifs?” into existence and see them on billboards, in newspapers and through animations. I’ve also been lucky enough to collaborate with people in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, New York and London who trust me to do this and more.

If you’re interested in talking design, ideas, books, music, art or just want to make fun of me for my magician era flick me a message.
